In 2011 the Clovis Chamber inducted, posthumously, Charles I Parnell Sr (Chuck) into The Community Award as Service to Veterans serving in both the US Air Force and the US Army. Upon entering the civilian world, Chuck went to work for the Army Corp of Engineers as manager of the Pine Flat Dam. He was actively involved in veterans affairs, joining the American Legion and holding various offices from Post Commander to State Commander in 2002 when he retired from the ACOE. In 2004 Chuck was hired by the Clovis Veterans Memorial District as CEO and helped in the early states of improving the current facility. In 2000 Chuck began a ten year obstacle laden path to acquire a site for construction of the $167 million 27 acre 300 bed California Veterans Home Facility. He committed himself as the challenging volunteer Founder and President of the Central California Veterans Home support Foundation and finally being able to attend, in June 2010, the groundbreaking ceremony for the architecturally fitting facility. This ceremony was attended by many California dignitaries including Gov Arnold Schwarzenegger.
