Bruce Thiesen was awarded the Community Award - Service To Veterans in 2012. After his tour of duty in the US Army in the 60's, Bruce became a active member of the American Legion serving as National Commander in 1993. He was a life member of AM-VETS, Central California Veterans Home Support Foundation INC and the East Fresno Kiwanis Club. Bruce held the position of Secretary of the California Department of Veterans Affairs before becoming District Manger Of the Clovis Veterans Memorial District. Bruce also managed the 8.5 million dollar expansion of the Veterans District facility. Bruce was proud to be an active participant at the ground breaking and dedication ceremonies of the Vietnam Memorial in Washington D.C. While in D.C. the Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs appointed him to serve on the National Rehabilitation Committee of Disabled Veterans and Bruce is one of ten California Vietnam Veterans to receive a Presidential Certificate from the USDVA for outstanding Community Service to Vietnam Era Veterans.
