August was awarded the 2016 Community Awards - Service to Veterans. August was drafted in 1968 at the height of the Vietnam War. His two year service obligation was completed in 1970 and he was honorably discharged and placed on inactive reserve for 4 years. He served as Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3225. In addition he is active in the Association of the United States Army and helped coordinate Veteran Service Officers in support and assistance of local Programs. On November 1, 2018Â he was sworn in as a new member of the Clovis Veterans Memorial District board of directors.
