Fred takes great pride in his job as a Clovis Fire Engineer. His meticulous attentionĀ to maintaining the firefighting equipment and his mechanical skills have proven to be real assets to the department. He finds issues before they need major repair and works on them himself to keep the equipment out of the shop, making us more efficient and putting Clovis Fire Department tax dollars to their best use.
Fred generously gives his time to others, benefitting others and spreading the word of the Clovis Fire Department's commitment to service. And within the department, whenever their is a requirement off-duty help, Fred is their, often the first to volunteer, and often the hardest working volunteer. Whether it is a home improvement project, vehicle repair or even a whole house move - where their has been a request for help, Fred is enthusiastically willing and able to lend his considerable expertise and give his time, no matter how tight the schedule - saving time and money for people-and paying it forward.
Fred consistently represents the Clovis Firefighters at many of the volunteer events held for Kids at Valley Children's Hospital. It may be a simple act of passing out toys to children struck by tragic injury or dealing with complicated illness, but in those moments, the simplest act of kindness is often the only bit of joy a child may enjoy during their unfortunate hospital stay. And receiving it from a real firefighter. No doubt, Fred has sparked the career dream in more than one child to become a Clovis Firefighter.
Because of the way Fred performs his duties and represents the City of Clovis and the Firefighters Association and because of Fred's personal character, community service and excellent job performance are tremendous examples to the community, Engineer Fred Edwards is the 2018 Firefighter of the year.
