Victor Mclaglen


Victor McLaglen was inducted into the Clovis Hall of Fame in 2008. At the age of 14 McLaglen joined the British Army in hopes of joining the Boer wars. However, much to his liking, he was stationed at Windsor Castle with the Life Guards and was later forced to leave the army when his true age was discovered. He would rejoin the army later in life and serve during WW1. After the war McLaglen taking roles in British silent films. In the 1920's he took his career to Hollywood, becoming a popular character actor, with a particular knack for playing drunks. In 1939 McLaglen would purchase the historical Balfe Ranch near Herndon and Thompson in rural Clovis. He would go on to make a name for himself around town by drinking with the locals at downtown Clovis bars.
