John Southern

John Southern was inducted into the Clovis Hall of Fame in 2001 as a Friend of the Youth. He coached soccer and softball from 1988 until 1992. In 1993, he became President of the Clovis Girls Softball League which was in debt. Within a year the league was financially stable. in 1994, he coached the 12 and under girls called "The Force". They played in the National Championships in Indianapolis, Indiana and won 3rd place. in 1996, the 14 and under softball team won 5th place in the National Championship held in Chattanooga, Tennessee. John was instrumental in bringing the 1997 16 and under National Softball competition to Clovis, winning first place out of 82 teams from throughout the nation. In 2000, he coached the 18 and under "gold" Clovis Rockets softball team to the National Competition, the first in Clovis history, and won fourth place.
