John Pokorny Jr

John Pokorny Jr., son of Czechoslovakian immigrants, was inducted into the Clovis Hall of Fame in 1992 and was nominated by the American Sokol Organization. John worked as postmaster of the Clovis Post Office from 1960 to 1984. He oversaw the expansion of the Post office from ten to more than eighty employees as well as the construction of the new Post Office on Bullard and Minnewawa.  After retirement, he helped establish and construct the Big Dry Creek Museum in Clovis. He personally helped renovate the museum building. John served two terms as president and two as treasurer of the museum. His goal was to make sure historical artifacts were preserved instead of being destroyed. Additionally, John was a past commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, past president of the Eagles Lodge, and the Fresno-Clovis Gymnastic Sokol Club, member of the American Legion, and state and National Postal Supervisors Associations.
