From the day they started dating in high school, Guy and Carey Adams, have been horseback riding. In fact, Carey says that she "grew up on the back of a horse."
Guy and Carey started The Heart of the Horse Therapy Ranch in 2011. It is a therapeutic-assisted riding program using horses and trained instructors to provide equine-assisted therapy for people of all ages with physical and developmental disabilities, including our military veterans.
Located in Clovis, Heart of the Horse Therapy Ranch is a nonprofit 501(3)c organization that works with people with a range of physical and developmental disabilities. The children they serve at the Heart of the Horse Therapy Ranch most frequently are those with autism, Downs Syndrome, rare genetic disorders and cerebral palsy, all presenting with sensory deficits and motor control problems addressed through therapeutic-assisted riding. The adult program works mostly with our nations heroes who have returned home with service-related PTSD or injuries.
Heart of the Horse Therapy Ranch partners with programs such as the Downs Syndrome Association of Central California, Break the Barriers, Clovis Veterans Memorial District, Vietnam Veterans of America, Valley Children's Hospital, Clovis Veterans of Foreign Wars and many other wonderful organizations.
Heart of the Horse has been recognized by First 5 Fresno County as
"2012 Hands-on Hero" for health and wellness; the 2016 Non-Profit of the Year; and received the 2017 California Image Award from the Native Daughters of the Golden West.
