Upon graduation from Clovis Union High School Al Verret enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and became a jet mechanic. When his enlistment ended, he worked, as a mechanic, for several Dodge dealerships in the bay area. In 1969 Al relocated to Clovis where he launched his own business, Al's Clovis Auto Repair. Al retired in 2000 and began a second career in service to veterans and the greater community of Clovis. He joined 5 veterans organizations, American Legion Post 147, Central California Veterans Home Support Foundation, The Society or 48 men and 8 Horses (Supports Nurses Training.) and the Veterans Affairs Voluntary Service. In addition Al chartered Clovis AMVET Chapter in 2011. He also volunteered in Honor Guards, video taped the Stories of Service class each week, and donated time to sick and hospitalized vets at the VA hospital in Fresno. In addition, at Christmas time Al rang the bells in support of the Salvation Army Corps here in Clovis
