Jesse August Blasingame started his professional prowess after serving in the Mexican War and receiving "scripts" to buy land. After a bit of gambling and gold rush panning he purchased his first bit of land, in 1886, near Big Dry Creek. He engaged in raising cattle, sheep and horses. After some time and more land purchases he became one of the largest land owners in the area. The family still has ties to the cattle industry are still owners of the land, now known as Blasingame Ranch.
