Rex Phebus was inducted into the Clovis Hall of Fame in 1975 for his outstanding leadership, business, and professional contributions to the community. A native to Clovis, Rex graduated from Clovis Grammar School and Clovis High School, where he earned the Sassano Blanket Baseball Award. From 1942 – 1945, Rex served in the United States Army during World War II. After serving, he returned to Clovis and opened a gas station where he provided the youths of Clovis employment opportunities. He served as director of the Clovis Rodeo Association for 50 years and served as director of the Clovis Memorial District for 30 years. His various contributions include coordinating after-school programs, creating recreational activities and programs for Clovis youths. He was an affiliate of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legions and Clovis Rotary Club. In 1974, the Clovis Independent dedicated the first “Clovis Citizen of the Year” award to Rex.
