Born in Fresno in 1929, Mike’s family moved to the “ranch” at Shaw and Armstrong when Mike was five years old. He served with the 1st Cavalry, Infantry in Korea. Mikes hobby was boats and water skiing. While building a boat after his return from Korea, he met his future wife Lois Tvede. Mike's father, Nick, and uncle owned Clovis Concrete Pipe company and Mike worked there after school and during the summer. Mike and Nick bought the business in July, 1956 and continued making and installing pipe until their retirement in December 1999.
Mike was a charter member of the Clovis Boys League Booster club and sponsored the Clovis Pipe Team for many years. He also belonged to the Clovis Lions Club for over 30 years; helped cook and dig holes for various deep-pit BBQ dinners held by local charities: was on the Bicentennial Celebration committee which was the beginning of the annual Clovis 4th of July celebration.
While serving as vice president of the Clovis High School's Boosters Club, Mike was recruited to run for the school board. He served as a trustee for the Clovis Unified School District for two terms. Mike's father was member number 37 of the Clovis Horse Show and Festival Association. Mike was involved with the Rodeo Association for most of his adult life and a director for 28 years. He was the Grand Marshal in 2001 and again in the group of surviving Grand Marshals for the 100-year celebration. He was presented with a PRCA gold badge for long-term past directors.
