Major General Ronald H. Markarian was inducted into the Clovis Hall of Fame in 2009 for his service to country. Beginning his military career in 1949 with the Army National Guard. Upon graduation from Fresno State, he entered the U.S. Air Force. He served in Vietnam and at the Pentagon, where he served Chief of Air Reconnaissance Systems and Director of the USAF Intelligence Reserves Forces. He retired from the Air Force in August 1980 as a Colonel with 30 years of active military service and immediately became a member of the California State Military Reserve. In July of 1990 he was appointed Commanding General, State Military Reserve and promoted to the Grade of Major General. Major General Markarian retired after nearly 46 years of uniformed military service in October 1995. He was awarded many military awards and decoration for his service.
