Dan and Peggy Dunklee moved to Clovis with their respective families in the late 1960s. They attended the "new" Clovis High School, married in 1972, and moved away for a short time while Dan served in the United State Navy. After his service Dan and Peggy moved back to Clovis to raise their children. After health issues forced Dan into an early Retirement, Peggy decided to open a used book store and a "Book Barn" was born. The business was so successful that they changed book store location twice to its current location at 7th and Clovis Ave.  Their passion for literacy, books and the written word is driven by their belief that a literate community is essential to cultivate free thought in our culture. Peggy has served on both the Fresno County and the Clovis friends of the library groups. She has also been active in the Soroptimist International of Clovis. Peggy loves the difference that she and fellow members can make working together and investing their time an effort to support the education and advancement of women and girls. Dan has served on the boards of The Arnie Nixon Center Advocates of Fresno State University, the Westerners a local history organization. He also served as President of the Fresno County Friends of the library. Dan has promoted the craft of writing and worked to raise the awareness of the tremendous writing talent we have here in Central California.
