Clayton Pendergrass was elected to the Clovis Hall of Fame in 1975 for his professional contributions to the community. In 1913, he moved to Clovis from Ceres and practiced medicine for more than 50 years. After serving in the Marine Corps during World War II, Clayton operated the Clovis Sanitarium with his brother. Soon after, he started his own practice, becoming the first chief of staff at the Clovis Memorial Hospital. He helped organize the first Clovis Rodeo, founded the Clovis Boys League, and started the first Clovis softball league. He was a charter member of the Clovis Chamber of Commerce and the Lions Club.
